Co-creating solutions with Ministry of Social and Family Development

It starts with you, the Family Champion.

Every family has stories worth passing on: where you came from, what you went through, what you hope for. As the Family Champion, you take the first step. StorySG asks the questions, helps capture the answers in writing, and brings them together in one Family Handbook, where the whole family can contribute their own memories and stories.

A Family Champion smiles at her phone as pages fly into her Family Handbook: Ah Ma cooking fish, a brother overseas, a child drawing a chilli plant, the family travelling together

The conversation that never happens

You talk regularly. Just not about their life.

"Have you eaten? Did you take your medicine? What time is the appointment?" Families in Singapore stay in touch. What never comes up is where they came from, what they went through, what they believe, and what they want kept.

Both sides mean to. The child means to ask one day. The parent waits to be asked and assumes everyone is too busy. The years fill up with errands and appointments, and then the stories are gone, along with the voice that told them.

The best time to keep your parents' and grandparents' stories, in their own words and their own voice, is while they are here to tell them.

Who this is for

Think of the person who keeps everyone together.

The one who organises the dinners, remembers the birthdays, takes the photos, and keeps everyone happy. That is the Family Champion. They can be anyone: an adult child, an aunt, a retiree, a grandchild. You don't need to be a good writer. You just need to be willing to step up and encourage your family to contribute.

If there isn't one in your family today, you can be.

How it works

Ask. Capture. Keep. Repeat.

Ask

Choose who to ask, and StorySG sends them one question at a time.

Capture

They answer by voice, text, photo or video, in any language. AI writes a draft from what they said, and anything that doesn't sound like them can be fixed. The original is always kept beside it.

Keep

Every answer goes into the right chapter of your Family Handbook. Kept forever to inspire future generations.

Repeat

StorySG sends the next question when they're ready, with a gentle reminder if one is waiting. When a topic is done, it suggests a new one.

Back to Ask

For the family

Know each other better by the next family get-together.

Someone is asked about their life

When your own family asks about your life and really listens, you know you matter. For a parent or grandparent, it is the conversation they have been waiting for.

Everyone adds to the same handbook

A sister overseas and a brother downstairs write into the same pages. Nobody has to be in the room, and by the next family dinner everyone already has something real to talk about.

Grandchildren hear it from them

They can read their grandparents' stories and hear them told, in a voice they know, for years to come.

Support through life's changes

Retirement, a move, a new grandchild, an achievement, a loss. These are easier to talk through when the family already has the habit of asking about each other.

The research behind it

Why a small step works.

Families in Singapore stay in touch, but closeness and shared values can fade, and being asked about your life helps bring them back. Research suggests children who know their family's stories cope better with hard times. That comes from hearing the stories again and again, and StorySG helps start that.

Nurturing the habit matters more than any single conversation. That is why every Family Champion starts small, with one person, and StorySG keeps the questions coming at their pace.

What you're building

The book of who we are.

Each family has one Family Handbook, led by its Family Champion and written in the words of the people who lived it. It has two parts.

Identity

Filled in once, revised now and then.

  • Origin: where we come from.
  • People: who we are.
  • Beliefs: what we value.
  • Tradition: how we do things.

Stories

Open and growing, never finished.

  • Past: memories and turning points.
  • Present: the chapter we are living now.
  • Future: dreams, hopes and messages for those who come after.

One simple rule keeps it trustworthy. Every entry shows whose words they are and when they were written down, for example "Told by: Grandma. Written down on: 12 March 2026."

Simple to start

From a conversation, to a story, to your Family Handbook.

1

Start

Sign up, add the people in your family, and open your Family Handbook. On the Family plan, you can book an online workshop from the app, where you join other Family Champions to write together.

2

Ask

Pick one person and invite them. StorySG sends them questions on their phone, one at a time.

3

Capture

They answer by voice, text, photo or video, in any language. AI writes it up, you check it, and it goes into the right chapter.

4

Grow

Invite the family to add to the same handbook. Pick the next topic when you are ready. Download all of it whenever you like.

Private by design

The family owns the handbook.

Your handbook belongs to your family. Only the people you invite can see it, and you can download, move or delete it at any time. The original recording or text is always kept beside the written version, in whatever language it was told.

Every family owns their Family Handbook and can download it to keep forever.

Co-creating solutions for Singapore families

StorySG is co-creating with the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and the Families for Life Council on ways to bring Singapore families closer.

Our shared aim: bring generations closer, so that one generation's stories become something the next can read, hear and pass on.

Plans

Start free. Grow with the family.

Free for you, the Family Champion. When the family joins in, it's S$10.75 a month for up to six family members, billed yearly at S$129.

Questions Family Champions ask
My parent isn't good with technology.

They don't need to be. StorySG sends questions to their phone, and they can reply by voice, in whatever language they like. If they'd rather not use a phone, you can sit with them and record the answer for them.

What if they don't want to be asked?

As the Family Champion, you can start by writing your own story first, to inspire the next person in the family.

Does the AI change what they say?

No. AI tidies up what a person said and never adds to it. You correct the draft back to how they really talk, and the original recording or text is always kept.

Is it private?

Yes. Only the family members you invite can see the handbook. The family owns it: download, move or delete it whenever you choose.

Can we write about dreams and hopes too?

Yes. That's what Future is for: a grandparent's hopes for the grandchildren, a child's dream of who they will become, a message for someone not yet born. Each one is kept in the person's own words, like every other entry.

Do I have to attend a workshop?

No. You can start in the app on your own. The Family plan includes one online workshop, where you join other Family Champions to write together.
