Why every story deserves a voice
Every person carries stories: where they grew up, how they met the people they love, the hard years and what got them through. Most of these are never written down. They live in one person’s memory, and when that person is gone, the stories go too.
We started StorySG because we kept seeing the same thing in our workshops. Families in Singapore stay in touch regularly, but the talk is about meals, appointments and plans. The conversation about who they are keeps getting put off.
You don’t need to be a writer to change that. You only need to be willing to ask.
How StorySG helps
Every family project needs someone to get it going. With StorySG, that’s the Family Champion. You start the Family Handbook, invite the family to tell their stories, and StorySG sends them the questions for conversations that mean something.
Your parent or grandparent can answer by voice, text, photo or video, in any language: dialect, mother tongue or Singlish. AI writes a draft from what they said, you fix anything that doesn’t sound like them, and the original recording is always kept beside it.
Every answer goes into the right chapter of your Family Handbook. The rest of the family can add to it too, whether they live in the next room or on the other side of the world.
Why it matters
A family’s stories are how the next generation learns where they come from. Research suggests children who know their family’s stories cope better with hard times. And being asked about your life, by your own family, tells you that you matter.
That is why we believe every story deserves a voice.
